The Rev. Dr. Ronald Allen Bogs was claimed by the Lord as His child through the waters of Holy Baptism on Christmas Day at the age of 13 days old. Son of Dan and Betty Bogs, he grew up at Zion Lutheran Church, Tomball, TX going to Tomball Lutheran School for all of grade school. Ron is a middle child between siblings Randy and Carol.
After graduating from Tomball High School near his hometown of Hufsmith, TX, Ron began attending Concordia Teachers College, River Forest IL (now Concordia University Chicago) and graduated in 1982. He became a 6th grade teacher at Holy Cross Lutheran School in North Miami, FL and then a Director of Christian Education at King of Kings Lutheran Church, San Antonio, TX in 1984. Four years later he attended Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO. After his first year of seminary in May of 1989, Ron and Gayle were married. He did his vicarage at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Steeleville, IL and graduated with his Master of Divinity in 1992 being ordained into the Office of Holy Ministry that summer back at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Steeleville, IL where he served as Associate Pastor until 1996. The weekend of the first birthday of their first son Caleb, the Bogs family returned to Texas with Rev. Bogs serving as Sole Pastor of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Corpus Christi, TX for six years where their second son Joshua was born. Almost a year after Joshua’s birth in 2002 Rev. Bogs became pastor of St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Westfield, Houston, TX. The Bogs family grew with the additions of their daughter Hannah and youngest son Aaron.
While at St. Matthew, Pastor Bogs had served in many community roles such as Chaplain and Shepherd of his children’s Cub and Boy Scout, American Heritage Girls, and Trail Life USA troops, worked as Program Committee Chairman and the President of the Texas Confessional Lutherans, received nominations for President of the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod and Vice President of the Texas District, served as Circuit Visitor for three years, and earned a Doctor of Ministry from Concordia Seminary in 2006.
Pastor Bogs celebrated a momentous occasion in 2022. Not only was it his 20th year as pastor at St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Westfield in Houston, TX, he celebrated his 30th Anniversary of Ordination in the Office of Holy Ministry, as well as, 40 years as a church worker in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. Throughout his ministry to this day, Pastor Bogs has baptized 180 into the family of God, confirmed 214, married 58 couples, and laid to rest 148 to await the Resurrection on the Last Day.
Rev. Bogs retired on May 18, 2025, after 23 years to the day and longest-tenured pastor at St. Matthew Westfield. In retirement Ron enjoys woodworking, homebrewing, watching sports, spending time with family, and especially traveling with his wife. However, as a pastor never fully retires, Rev. Bogs is serving congregations in pulpit supply and leading Witness Workshops using Vocational Lutheran Evangelism. He and his wife have created this website to share several newly published books, The Jesus-Directed Life, Developing and Implementing a Lifestyle Evangelism Culture, Devotions for Luther's Small Catechism, Lutheran Vocational Evangelism Conversations, Our First Devotion Book - Devotions for Newly Married Couples, Vocational Evangelism as a Practice of Lutheran Doctrine, and Who Am I? - How to Overcome Feelings of Inferiority. He has also written several other publications which can be found on this website.
